JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title:
Director of Marketing & Communications
Reports to:
President

Position Summary: The Director of Marketing & Communications is part of the Strategy Team of the Community Foundation with responsibility for planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of marketing and communications. The primary goal of all marketing and communications efforts is to develop new donors through awareness of what the Community Foundation does to make the community strong and vibrant, in partnership with its donors. The target audience for promoting awareness and understanding of the Community Foundation is both external and internal, including current and prospective donors, professional advisors, media representatives, nonprofit organizations, community leaders and the general public, as well as Community Foundation board and staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement an annual marketing plan in consultation with board committee and other staff using print, verbal and social media but not limited to these avenues.
  • Monitor Community Foundation brand, including media coverage and use of key messages and logo by other organizations, donors, friends, staff and board.
  • Support Charitable Real Estate Foundation as part of overall plan.

Marketing

  • Develop and implement a marketing plan based on the Community Foundation?s strategic plan.
  • Develop and implement budget and calendar for media, sponsorships and partnerships.
  • Work with designers, photographers and videographers as needed to create marketing materials, including publications and advertising that encourage donors and donor development.

Communications

  • Work with staff to highlight accomplishments internally and externally.
  • Establish and maintain relations with all forms of local and national media.
  • Prepare material for media on request.
  • Coordinate interviews by staff of the Community Foundation.
  • Create talking points and key messages used in publications and presentations for board and staff.
  • Plan and coordinate public meetings as needed with assistance from other staff members.
  • Assist other staff as needed.

Tools

  • Produce print and electronic newsletters as well as other publications such as annual Report to the Community.
  • Maintain and enhance the Community Foundation website and web-based outreach (Ex: Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Guidestar and other listings).

General

  • Represent the Community Foundation at community events and initiatives.
  • Be an advocate of and utilize the latest trends in communications.
  • Work with finance staff to report statistics.
  • Work with Office Manager to maintain marketing and everyday communications materials (Ex: current nametags, business cards and stationery.)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor?s degree and at least 5 years experience in marketing and communications.
  • Excellent writing and verbal skills.
  • Knowledge of and experience in generating local media.
  • Experience working with local printers and agencies.
  • Excellent computer skills, including desktop publishing, PowerPoint and website management software.
  • Knowledge of leading social media tools and their application.
  • Knowledge of graphic design, photography and videography desired.
