4 Steps to Transform into a More Powerful You. ~ Val Silidker ...

?

Transformation is a process, a journey of self-inquiry and self-awareness.

All of us, over time, develop patterns of behavior and thought based on many different circumstances: influence from family and friends, traumatic situations, social ?norms,? stress of daily life and so on.

When we notice something inside of us that we would like to change, it helps to become aware of the stages we can go through to re-pattern ourselves into a healthier behavior and become empowered to take control over our own lives.

All change is self-change, whether we are working with a group, individual coach or any kind of therapist. It always comes down to the individual and his or her willingness to learn and take action.

So, how do you go about transforming and creating lasting change in your own life?

Here are four steps to consider:

1. Awareness and Contemplation.

At first, we are unaware of a particular behavior, thought or issue, and then something or someone brings it to our attention. When this happens (and we eventually let down our defense mechanisms), we go from a space of unconsciousness to a space of consciousness.

This is a time of contemplation and of recognition that there is an opportunity to make a different choice. We begin to search for the causes of what is happening, to understand what is alive in us and, eventually, to start looking for possible solutions and alternatives.

Sometimes people can be ?stuck? in this place of contemplation indefinitely without moving to the next step. They recognize that there is an issue and think about the problem, but do not find the motivation to focus instead on the solutions and possible actions.

If you find yourself here, take time to consider the possible solutions rather than the problem; look to the future instead of the past. Make a list of ideas and alternative actions or ways of being, and allow yourself to feel anticipation and excitement as you envision yourself embodying this new choice.

2. Goal Setting.

Once we begin to think about the solutions and alternatives, we start to re-evaluate ourselves and form a plan of action by setting goals. A good way to begin is to make a public announcement of your intention for change. Rather than keeping the idea nested in your head, tell a friend?tell many friends?and invite them to hold you accountable for your intention.

As you start writing down your goals, remember the acronym for goal setting: S.M.A.R.T. It stands for: Specific, Measurable, Attainable or Action-Oriented, Realistic and Timely Goals.

Performance-based, action-oriented goals help break things down into bite-size pieces so you can celebrate small victories along the way. For example, instead of making your goal a general idea like ?losing weight,? say that this week you will exercise for 20 minutes longer than usual.

Also, it is important to stay positive in your wording. Instead of stating what you don?t want, state what you do want. For instance, rather than, ?I don?t want to be unhealthy,? say, ?I want to improve my health.? Affirmations are a powerful tool and keep you focused on the solution.

3. Taking Action.

Now that you have recognized the issues, focused on the solutions and created an action plan, it is time to get engaged. This is where real commitment comes in.

Choose a healthy activity to counter an unhealthy activity, such as going for a long walk instead of reacting emotionally to a situation, or reading a book instead of watching television. Countering is an important tool in this stage of change. It is a powerful method to break patterns that were once unconscious and to begin to set in place new mindful patterns of behavior and thought that serve you in your personal growth.

Another way to support goals is to create an environment that offers alternatives. A few examples are: buying fresh organic vegetables and fruits as snacks to keep in the house, removing alcohol from your environment, posting affirmations all around your living space, reading self-help books to stay mentally stimulated and inspired and setting alarms during the day that remind you to take ten-minute breaks every so often.

As you move through this conscious action stage of re-patterning, it is helpful to have positive reinforcement from friends, family and even yourself. Honor your small victories, like accomplishing your goals according to timelines you have set.

Be patient with yourself, take your time and if you notice that you are slipping into contemplation instead of action, simply re-evaluate your needs and begin setting S.M.A.R.T. goals once again.

4. Maintenance.

Over time, as you move through your action steps, supported by countering techniques, a healthy environment, positive reinforcement and the help of your loved ones, you will eventually graduate to a level where the new pattern of behavior replaces the old.? Some issues will disappear completely and become new healthy behaviors that embed themselves into your being, while others may require a lifetime of maintenance and conscious self-awareness.

The bottom line is that real change is possible. Every moment of your life is a new opportunity to make a different choice that supports your mental, physical and spiritual health and well-being and the well-being of those around you. You have the power to make that change in your life.

Start now, and remember, as Lao-tzu said, ?The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.?

The Angry Video Game Nerd?has been a hit sensation on the Internet for over eight years, and is moving ever closer to its first film adaptation. The comedic web series stars The Nerd as he plays the worst, hardest, and weirdest NES games ever released.

The Nerd himself, James Rolfe, has just updated his?Facebook page?to remind fans of the upcoming trailer for the highly-anticipated?Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie.

He also stated that the trailer will?premier?live at a theater in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.

It?s at the Colonial Theater in Phoenixville, PA. The same theater where The Blob was filmed! I?ll be there to host the screening. I?ll show two past AVGN episodes, the Movie Trailer, some behind-the-scenes images and then a Q&A session. After that, I?ll be available to sign autographs or shake some hands. I?ll try my best to get to as many people as possible.

Friday, November 9, 2012
6:30pm
The Colonial Theatre
227 Bridge Street
Phoenixville, PA 19460
Tickets $15

See this link for more details.

Now the major detailed informative stuff:
Tickets are limited and are general admission ? meaning seats are first come first serve. Parking is not available at the Colonial Theater.
This is an ?R? rated event (for language), so those under the age of 17 must be accompanied by an adult.

As for the web premiere, it won?t be like the new Godzilla teaser where it screens at Comic Con, then disappears into oblivion. We?re planning to post it that same weekend. I?ll also be doing a signing at RetroCon on November 11.

Sounds exciting! I?m extremely jealous of anyone living near Phoenixville right now. I can?t for the trailer to release online though.

Any fans here that will be attending?

Kelley Blue Book inaccurate values for those thinking ?sell my car?

Briarwood, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/30/2012 -- When selling used cars for cash, people often look first to services such as Kelley?s Blue Book, Edmonds, or other similar sites to estimate the value of their car. Buddy Evans, Vice President of Big Bucks Auto and veteran automotive industry expert, explained recently that in reality, Kelley Blue Book and similar services? suggested retail values can be misleading and often skew far higher than what a person can realistically expect to sell their used car for.

According to Evans, ?these suggested values are often very inaccurate. Their numbers have little basis in real world vehicle sales and sellers need to understand that. Kelley Blue Book values do not take into account key factors that change frequently, even on a daily basis, such as the economy or the number of that same vehicle on the market. There are any number of issues that can alter the true value of a car and Kelley Blue Book and its competing sites completely ignore many of them.?

He also notes an industry concern that Kelley Blue Book presents a potential, inherent conflict of interest in that it derives revenue from advertising placed by auto manufacturers on its website and in its book. He further explained that this could potentially factor in to higher suggested retail values for newer model cars from the manufacturers who advertise in the book, comparative to what those cars are likely to sell for in the real world. ?Kelley?s or any other pricing guide for that matter, has never actually written a check to anyone based on these prices? says Evans.

To illustrate the process for how accurate ?industry standard? auto valuations are calculated, Evans noted that auto-buying companies such as his use two main sources in addition to an on-site expert appraisal. ?At Big Bucks Auto for example, we first research national online auctions, which show us the actual prices people are paying for any given car. We then reference the standard east coast-specific pricing guide, which provides us with another real world number we can associate with a vehicles value. In other words, at a company like Big Bucks Auto, we would not base vehicle values on ?suggested retail values? but rather on the actual value a vehicle has to an actual person on the actual market.?

Buddy Evans further emphasises that car sellers should do diligent research of their own. Check classified ads to locate the price of a similar car to yours on the market, and how long it takes to sell. Even suggesting that you call sellers in the classified ads to ask how much they may have sold their vehicle for, how long it took to sell, and how much their selling price may have changed since first listing their original asking price. ?There?s a big difference between the asking price and the selling price of any car, and the only way to be informed on either is to do the appropriate research. It is a lot of work, but worth it when seeking maximum cash for cars. And then car buying services like ours at Big Bucks Auto and similar companies are there to provide fast, free appraisals and accurate valuations when you don?t want to take the time or trouble to attempt the process entirely on your own.?

Other helpful tips noted by Evans when selling your car in NY, NJ, Long Island, or elsewhere on the East Coast or nationwide, include being aware of the two biggest factors that affect a car?s value: the condition the vehicle is in and its mileage. Obviously, accidents greatly alter a car?s worth because people are less likely to purchase cars with known issues. If a vehicle has very few problems and low mileage, the best ways to positively increase car value are to have popular colors and more factory options.

However, Evans underlined that the biggest key to selling a car is knowledge of the market. Also, that due to inaccuracies in Kelley?s Blue Book and other comparable pricing guides it is inadvisable to use them as sole source for vehicle pricing, and even to avoid their suggested values when possible.
